Amendment to Council and Committee Meetings for 2026

Decision Maker: Council

Decision status: Recommendations Determined

Decision:

Memorandum by the Chief Executive Officer

To Council:

On 15 February 2026, the NSW Premier announced that Monday, 27 April 2026 will be designated as a public holiday in NSW to recognise Anzac Day which falls on a weekend in 2026.

On 22 September 2025, Council endorsed meeting dates for 2026, 2027 and 2028, with the April 2026 Council meeting scheduled for Monday, 27 April 2026.

Section 365 of the Local Government Act 1993 states that "the council is required to meet at least 10 times each year, each time in a different month", with "year" meaning the period from 1 July to the following 30 June (the financial year).

In order to meet the requirements of section 365, the meeting must be rescheduled to a date in April 2026.

It is proposed that the April 2026 Council meeting is rescheduled to the next business day, being Tuesday, 28 April 2026.

No adjustments are required to the program of meeting dates for 2027 and 2028 endorsed by Council on 22 September 2025.

The City's website will be updated with the revised 2026 meeting dates if endorsed by Council.
