Moved by Councillor Arkins, seconded by Councillor Worling –

It is resolved that Council:

(A)      acknowledge and celebrate the important contribution of LGBTQIA+ owned and inclusive businesses and venues, to the cultural, social and economic life of our community;

(B)      note the City of Sydney developed the Oxford Street LGBTQIA+ social and cultural place strategy, including establishing the Oxford Street Pride Charter which promotes inclusivity and supports businesses and community organisations to maintain Oxford Street’s safe and welcoming environment. The charter is maintained and managed by the Rainbow Precinct, with support from the City of Sydney;

(C)      note that King Street is a hub for LGBTQIA+ culture, small business and nightlife in Sydney, attracting visitors, fostering inclusion, and strengthening the local economy;

(D)      commit to further supporting local LGBTQIA+ precincts through practical measures including dedicated consultation and engagement during the rollout of Special Entertainment Precincts across the City;

(E)      commit to co-host a roundtable with Inner West Council for LGBTQIA+ businesses in Newtown and Erskineville, venues, and community stakeholders including the Pride Business Association (PBA), to identify priorities, barriers, challenges and opportunities and practical measures, and to inform future Council initiatives; and

(F)      commit to host a roundtable for LGBTQIA+ businesses on and around Oxford Street, with community stakeholders including the Pride Business Association (PBA), and AsheMorgan, the Oxford Street developer to identify priorities, barriers, challenges and opportunities and practical measures, and to inform future Council initiatives.

The motion, as varied by consent, was carried unanimously.
