Recommendation

It is recommended that the Committee endorse the following treatments in Portman Street, Zetland:

(A)       The provision of 4.6 metre wide footpath extension at the following locations:

·            On the western side, between the points 0 metres and 11 metres south of Navins Lane;

·            On the western side, between the points 149 metres and 159 metres south of Navins Lane;

·            On the eastern side, between the points 0 metres and 10 metres south of Merton Street;

·            On the eastern side, between the points 86 metres and 96 metres south of Merton Street;

(B)       The removal of existing raised thresholds and associated median and kerbside traffic islands on Portman Street, Zetland between the points 72 metres and 81 metres and between 139 metres and 146 metres, south of Navins Lane;

It is also recommended that the Committee endorse the reallocation of parking on Portman Street, Zetland as follow:

(C)       On the western side, between the points 11 metres and 14 metres (one angle car parking space) south of Navins Lane, as "No Parking Car Share Vehicles Excepted Area Bay 892" and "60° angle parking - Rear to Kerb";

(D)       On the western side, between the points 14 metres and 149 metres (45 angle car parking spaces) south of Navins Lane, as "2P 8am-10pm Permit Holders Excepted Area 35" and "60° angle parking - Rear to Kerb";

(E)       On the eastern side, between the points 10 metres and 86 metres (26 angle car spaces) south of Merton Street, as "2P 8am-10pm Permit Holders Excepted Area 35" and "60° angle parking - Rear to Kerb";

(F)        On the eastern side, between the points 12 metres and 36 metres (four parallel car spaces) north of Hansard Street, as unrestricted for parking; and

(G)       on the eastern side, between the points 41 metres and 66 metres (four parallel car spaces) north of Hansard Street, as unrestricted for parking;

The Committee unanimously supported the recommendation.

Background

Residents have requested that the City consider the implementation of angled parking in Portman Street, Merton Street and Hansard Street, Zetland to increase the availability of parking for residents in the surrounding area.

Residents have also requested a review of parking restrictions in Portman Street, Hansard Street, Merton Street, Tosh Lane, Christies Lane and Portman Lane to clarify and reduce restrictions on parking controls. The requests include the provision of unrestricted parking.
