Nuffield Park Off-Leash

Decision:

Moved by Councillor Scott, seconded by the Chair (the Lord Mayor) -

It is resolved that:

(A)      Council note:

(i)         there are currently 853 dogs registered in the suburb of Zetland;

(ii)        the population of the Green Square Precinct is expected to grow to 74,200 by 2041;

(iii)      at the 2016 census, 91.4 per cent of occupied private dwellings in Zetland were apartments or flats;

(iv)      the petition on Change.org calling for Nuffield Park to be made off-leash gained 129 signatures;

(v)       the petition lodged with 132 signatures from local residents and business owners calling for Nuffield Park to be made off-leash;

(vi)      Waterloo currently has three off-leash dog parks, Waterloo Park, Rope Walk Park and Crown Park;

(vii)     Erskineville currently has four off-leash dog parks, Green Bans Park 1, Green Bans Park 2, Solander Park and Harry Noble Reserve;

(viii)    Ultimo currently has three off-leash dog parks, Mary Ann St Park, Wentworth Park and Fig Lane Park;

(ix)      Pyrmont currently has three off-leash dog parks, Waterfront Park, Metcalf Park and Giba Park;

(x)       Zetland currently only has one off-leash dog park, Joynton Park; and

(xi)      the sunken centre of Nuffield Park makes it an ideal location for dog owners to safely exercise their pets; and

(B)      the Chief Executive Officer be requested to investigate designating Nuffield Park Zetland an off-leash dog park.
