Recommendation

It is recommended that the Committee endorse the following reallocation of parking on the eastern side of Kent Street, Miller Point, south of Argyle Street:

(A)      Between the points 18 metres and 24 metres (one car space) as "1/4P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri" and "2P Ticket 6pm-10pm Mon-Fri 8am-10pm Sat-Sun & Public Holidays Permit Holders Excepted Area 16"; and

(B)      Between the points 30 metres and 36 metres (one car space) as "4P 8am-8pm Electric Vehicles Only While Charging" and "No Parking Electric Vehicles Excepted While Charging All Other Times".

Background

Council at its meeting on 26 June 2023, resolved to adopt the Electrification of Transport in the City Strategy and Action Plan. The strategy outlines key actions to support this transition, including, advocacy, and actions within the City’s control.

Action 20 of the Strategy outlines that the City will work with private sector providers to trial paid on-street electric vehicle charging in residential areas with constrained private charging opportunities. This should be cost neutral to the City and avoid negative impacts on the public domain and residential amenity.

In collaboration with Ausgrid and EVX who are the charging point operator, the City is undertaking a limited trial of dedicated on-street parking for electric vehicle charging using Ausgrid infrastructure in Kent Street, Millers Point.
