Advice

The Committee unanimously supported the recommendation.

Background

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) are planning to re-route the route 389 in the Pyrmont area to address customer feedback, improve access to Darling Harbour and the Maritime Museum, and provide improved interchange opportunities between bus and light rail services.

The new route proposed will now terminate and commence on Murray St adjacent to the Maritime Museum and the Pyrmont Bay Light Rail stop, instead of operating a one-way anticlockwise loop on Jones Bay Rd, Pyrmont St, Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Murray St and Pirrama Rd (figure 1 and 2).

As a result of the proposed new route, an additional bus zone is required on the western side of Murray St adjacent to the entrance to the Pyrmont Bay Light Rail stop. TfNSW and Transit Systems, as the operator of route 389, are requesting for a 37 metres bus zone in Murray Street, north of Union Street.
