Upgrade to Fitzroy Gardens, Potts Point 

Moved by Councillor Phelps, seconded by Councillor Chung – 

It is resolved that Council:

(A)      note the growing popularity of activities in Fitzroy Gardens, Potts Pott, including Vivid exhibitions and ongoing weekend markets;

(B)      note that the 2018/19 resourcing strategy includes a budget of $13.3m for extensive asset enhancement works for Open Space and Parks;

(C)      note that there were no small park upgrade projects between 2016-2018 in Potts Point;

(D)      note the upgrade of toilets at Fitzroy Gardens is due to be completed in 2018-19; and

(E)      prioritise the revitalisation of the open space and gardens throughout Fitzroy Gardens, Potts Point, for the benefit of residents and visitors.

Amendment. Moved by Councillor Thalis, seconded by Councillor Miller –

It is resolved that Council note:

(A)      the growing popularity of activities in Fitzroy Gardens, Potts Pott, including Vivid exhibitions and ongoing weekend markets;

(B)      that the 2018/19 resourcing strategy includes a budget of $13.3m for extensive asset enhancement works for Open Space and Parks;

(C)      the following upgrade work to Fitzroy Gardens includes:

(i)         in 2011, upgrade of the El Alamein Fountain with the restoration of the metal structure, and upgrading the hydraulic and electrical functions to improve power and water efficiency;

(ii)        in 2013, landscape works, repaired paving, additional planting, additional bench seats, lighting improvements, consistent light poles, bins and handrails, upgraded stairs and improved pedestrian access;

(iii)      in 2014, the Fitzroy Gardens Playground upgrade with the installation of new play equipment, paving, lighting, new furniture, fencing, a new shade structure, soft landscaping and planting  advanced trees; and

(iv)      the upgrade of the Fitzroy Gardens toilets is due for completion in 2018/19;

(D)      the Kings Cross Community Garden master plan and management plan was approved on 7 May 2018, with stage one of the garden to commence construction later this year; and

(E)      the Lord Mayor Minute “ Improvement Works Kings Cross” asks the CEO to:

(i)         work with the community to prepare a plan to upgrade Lawrence Hargreaves Reserve in conjunction with the establishment of the new community garden; and

(ii)        develop a package of public domain works to respond to issues raised recently by the community in this area.

Variation. At the request of the Chair (the Lord Mayor), and by consent, the amendment was varied by the addition of words to clause (E)(ii), such that the amendment read as follows:

It is resolved that Council note:
