Wear It Purple Day

Decision:

Moved by Councillor Phelps, seconded by Councillor Forster –

It is resolved that Council:

(A)        celebrate the positive impact of Wear It Purple Day and this year’s theme ‘Because We Empower Together’ which encourages visible support for young LGBTQI people in the community;

(B)        recognise the hard work of the Wear It Purple team, who, over eight years, have worked in Sydney and across the world to foster supportive, safe and accepting environments for young LGBTQI people;

(C)       note that LBGTIQ people continue to face serious challenges relating to social acceptance, mental health and wellbeing;

(D)       promote the values of Wear It Purple for young LGBTIQ people, including empowerment, mentoring, education, engagement and collaboration;

(E)        publicise Wear It Purple Day 2018, Friday 31 August, and the spectacle of Town Hall turning purple at night to mark the occasion; and

(F)        thank the CEO and Council staff for their support of Wear It Purple Day.

The above motion was varied by consent. The resolution as follows was carried unanimously:

It is resolved that Council:

(B)        recognise the hard work of the Wear It Purple team, who, over eight years, have worked in Sydney and across the world to foster supportive, safe and accepting environments for young LGBTQI people;
