Loud Shirt Day

Decision Maker: Council

Decision status: Recommendations Determined

Decisions:

Moved by Councillor Chung, seconded by Councillor Forster -

It is resolved that Council:

(A)        note that:

(i)          The Shepherd Centre is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that provides early intervention programs and services to children who are deaf and hearing impaired;

(ii)         Loud Shirt Day is a national community initiative which has developed as a fundraising campaign, so that children affected by hearing loss can live life loudly; and

(iii)        services and programs provided by The Shepherd Centre and other like-minded organisations are not fully government funded, and Loud Shirt Day aims to close the gap in access to these critical programs;

(B)        recognise the amazing achievements of The Shepherd Centre team, who, for almost 50 years, have worked in Sydney and across Australia to support children and the families of children who are deaf or hearing impaired and improve their quality of life;

(C)       endorse supporting The Shepherd Centre, through wearing a bright and/or colourful shirt and celebrating Loud Shirt Day on 19 October 2018; and

(D)       request that the Chief Executive Officer:

(i)          publicise and promote Loud Shirt Day on the City of Sydney's media channels; and

(ii)         encourage and facilitate a staff morning tea on Friday, 19 October 2018 to fundraise for The Shepherd Centre and celebrate Loud Shirt Day.

Carried unanimously.
