Advice

The Committee unanimously supported the recommendation.

Background

The footpath on the eastern side of Hiles Street, Alexandria south of McEvoy Street, is unsafe for pedestrians due to the damage caused by tree roots.

The City has investigated this issue and found resurfacing the existing footpath along Hiles Street would not solve the safety risk to pedestrians walking on the footpath. Furthermore, removing trees without damaging the adjacent buildings is not possible at this point in time. Therefore, the City is proposing to widen the footpath by 1.2 - 1.4 metres to provide safe access to pedestrians past the tree roots.
