Decision:

It is resolved that:

(A)        Council note:

(i)          the City of Sydney’s Haymarket precinct is globally, culturally and historically significant;

(ii)         the archways welcoming visitors to Dixon Street in Haymarket are particularly historically significant to the City of Sydney’s heritage;

(iii)        the importance of Haymarket’s success to the City of Sydney’s local economy;

(iv)       this proposal has support from the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce and the local community; and

(v)         the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce has written to the City of Sydney to request that Council consider heritage listing the Dixon Street archways;

(B)        the Chief Executive Officer be requested:

(i)          to investigate ways in which the City of Sydney could support the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce’s bid to heritage list the Dixon Street Archways; and

(ii)         should an investigation show merit, report back to Council with a proposal to heritage list the Dixon Street archways.
