The Committee unanimously supported the recommendation.

Background

The City’s Sustainable Sydney 2030 vision includes commitments to increase tree canopy cover by 50% by 2030, to green our City and improve the amenity of our streets. In 2011, Council adopted the City’s Street Tree Master Plan which identifies a range of in-road tree planting sites such as Bunn Street, Pyrmont.

Planting at this site is also supported by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment as part of their grant funding program to increase tree canopy cover in Sydney. A raised median island with in-road tree planting will increase tree canopy in the street.

To help improve general safety in the area as part of the City's commitment to calm traffic and improve the local amenity, it is proposed to install a landscaped raised median island median island in Bunn Street, between Hardwood and Pyrmont Streets, and footpath widening in Bunn Street at Pyrmont Street.
