Background |

Due to the construction of the CBD and South East Light Rail (CSELR), the southbound traffic movement of George Street, Sydney, between Bathurst and Campbell Streets, has been closed since mid 2016. To determine if it is necessary to reopen the southbound traffic movement, the City of Sydney proposes to temporarily maintain the existing road closure. |
Due to the construction of the CBD and South East Light Rail (CSELR), the southbound traffic movement of George Street, Sydney, between Bathurst and Campbell Streets, has been closed since mid 2016.
The construction of the CSELR in this section of George Street is nearing completion. To determine if it is necessary to reopen the southbound traffic movement, the City proposes to temporarily maintain the existing road closure.
Should the City decide to permanently close the southbound traffic movement, an application will be made to Roads and Maritime Services in accordance to Section 116 of the Roads Act 1993.
The City will notify the local community that it will maintain the existing road closure of the southbound traffic movement.
Should the City decide to permanently close the southbound traffic movement, the proposal will be consulted in accordance to Section 116 of the Roads Act 1993.
Funds are available in the current budget.
