Advice

The Committee unanimously supported the recommendation.

Background

The City is working with Transport for NSW to reinstate the cycleway on College Streets. The cycleways will provide more options for the community to travel safely while maintaining the necessary physical distancing requirements. Especially with public transport at COVID-safe capacity in peak times.

College street is an important connection in Sydney’s bike network. The link is aligned with the NSW Government’s Principal Bike Network for Inner Sydney. They connect existing cycling infrastructure and are located on well-used bike commuter routes between the city centre and the eastern suburbs.

This cycleway will provide another transport option and will make it safer and easier for people to choose to ride to work, school, services and to local Sydney businesses.  Providing more ways to get around also frees up capacity on public transport, roads and parking for people who cannot ride
