Recommendation

It is recommended that the Committee endorse the following traffic treatments and parking changes in Catherine and Derwent Streets, Glebe:

(A)        Installation of an at-grade marked pedestrian crossing in Catherine Street, just west of Derwent Street;

(B)        Installation of an at-grade marked pedestrian crossing in Derwent Street, south of Catherine Street;

(C)        Installation of footpath widenings and kerb islands at the intersection of Catherine and Derwent Streets;

(D)        Installation of kerb islands at the intersection of Catherine Street and Westmoreland Lane;

(E)        Installation of footpath widenings and a continuous footpath treatment at the intersection of Catherine and Westmoreland Streets;

(F)        Installation of footpath widenings and a continuous footpath treatment at the intersection of Catherine and Mount Vernon Lane;

(G)       Installation of footpath widenings at the intersection of Catherine and Mount Verson Street;

(H)        Reallocation of parking on the eastern side of Derwent Street, between the points 0 metre and 32 metres, south of Catherine Street as "No Stopping";

(I)          Reallocation of parking on the eastern side of Derwent Street, between the points 32 metre and 62 metres, south of Catherine Street as "Bus Zone";

(J)         Reallocation of parking on the eastern side of Derwent Street, between the points 62 metre and 78 metres, south of Catherine Street as "P5 Minute 8-9.30am 2.30-4pm School Days" and "4P Ticket 4-10pm Mon-Fri 8am-10pm Sat Sun & Public Holidays";

(K)        Reallocation of parking on the western side of Derwent Street, between the points 0 metre and 40 metres, south of Catherine Street as "Bus Zone";

(L)         Reallocation of parking on the eastern side of Derwent Street, between the points 0 metre and 18 metres, north of Catherine Street as "P5 Minute 8-9.30am 2.30-4pm School Days" and "4P Ticket 4-10pm Mon-Fri 8am-10pm Sat Sun & Public Holidays";

(M)       Reallocation of parking on the northern side of Catherine Street, between the points 17 metre and 42 metres, west of Derwent Street as "2P 8am-6pm Mon-Fri Permit Holders Excepted Area G"; and

(N)        Reallocation of parking on the northern side of Catherine Street, between the points 10 metres and 50 metres, west of Mount Vernon Lane as "Bus Zone".

Background

The Glebe and Forest Lodge Pedestrian, Cycling and Traffic Calming (PCTC) plan adopted by Council includes various proposals to address residents’ safety and amenity concerns for their neighbourhood.

As part of the City’s commitment to calm traffic and improve residential amenity, the City has developed a streetscape improvement plan for Catherine and Derwent Streets in Glebe.
