Advice
The Committee unanimously supported the recommendation.
Background
The City is committed to
encouraging people to ride bicycles more often and safely.
The City has adopted the Cycle
Strategy and Action Plan 2018-2030 which identifies a planned network of local
and regional routes that underpin the City’s transport and environmental goals.
As part of its planned network
of local and regional routes, the City is currently making improvements for
people cycling between Glebe and the City south with the construction of a
physically separated two-way bike path, located on the south side of Kelly
Street and the north side of Mary Ann Street, Ultimo. The bike path is
important for the safety of school and tertiary students, commuters, and food
delivery riders.
The construction of
the bike path on Mary Ann Street has resulted in the loss of an existing
allocated loading zone adjacent to the Vulcan Hotel. The City is proposing a
loading zone in Wattle Lane, Ultimo, following a request from the Hotel to
maintain an allocated space for on street loading access in close proximity to
their business.
