NSW Government Grant to Greyhound Racing NSW 

Moved by Councillor Phelps, seconded by the Chair (the Lord Mayor) –  

It is resolved that Council:

(A)        condemn the NSW Government’s decision to provide a $500,000 cash grant to Greyhound Racing NSW, contributing to prize money for the “Million Dollar Chase”;

(B)        note the exposure of widespread cruel and brutal treatment of greyhound racing dogs and other animals, illegal activity and banned behaviour across the industry through the ABC Four Corner’s episode ‘Making a Killing’ and the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW;

(C)       note the attempt in 2016 of former NSW Premier Mike Baird to ban greyhound racing in the interests of animal welfare; and

(D)       call on the NSW Government to redirect money from the Community Development Fund to the RSPCA.
