Report on City of Sydney Suppliers and Investments in Relation to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Campaign

Decision:

Moved by the Chair (the Lord Mayor), seconded by Councillor Miller

It is resolved that:

(A)       Council unequivocally condemns the alarming rise in Antisemitic, Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian attacks, as well Council acknowledges the broader escalation of racism and violence against racial and faith-based communities. There is no place for hate in our society;

(B)       Council note that the City has strong policies in place that ensure our investment and procurement practices avoid supporting socially harmful activities, including abuse of human rights;

(C)       Council note that the City’s review found no investments or contractual relationships with companies on the UNHRC register;

(D)       Council note local communities have repeatedly asked for our advocacy and representation on this issue, and that Council remains committed to using its voice to call on leaders to break the cycle of violence and ensure that neither Israelis nor Palestinians live in fear and at risk of harm or death; and

(E)       the Chief Executive Officer be requested to investigate ways in which the City can support community-based efforts to promote social cohesion and unity.
