Moved by Councillor Scott, seconded by Councillor Scully -

It is resolved that Council:

(A)        note:

(i)          there are 2.1 million renters in NSW;

(ii)         the City of Sydney has the highest concentration of rental properties and renters of Local Government Areas in NSW;

(iii)        those who rent deserve access to safe, quality housing; and

(iv)       more legislative protections are required to ensure that renters are able to access safe and quality housing, and that their rights are protected, including the prohibiting of:

(a)        no-grounds evictions;

(b)        punitive and discriminatory practices, including rent bidding, by landlords; and

(c)         ‘no pets’ clauses in leases; and

(B)        request that the Lord Mayor write to the NSW Premier, the Hon. Gladys Berejiklian MP, the NSW Minister for Fair Trading, the Hon. Matt Kean MP, the NSW Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Luke Foley MP, and the NSW Shadow Minister for Fair Trading, the Hon. Yasmin Catley MP, advocating that the NSW Government introduce legislation which prohibits no-grounds evictions, punitive and discriminatory practices, including rent bidding, by landlords, and ‘no pets’ clauses.

Amendment. Moved by Councillor Phelps, seconded by Councillor Vithoulkas -

It is resolved that Council:
