Background
|
Kepos Lane, Redfern,
between Phillip and Telopea Streets, is a narrow laneway (approximately 4.4
metres wide) that facilitates waste collection for properties fronting Kepos
and Baptist Streets. On 20 September 2018, the
Committee endorsed the following
parking changes on the western side of Kepos Lane, Redfern: (A) Between
the points 10 metres and 117.4 metres (20 car spaces) north of Phillip
Street, as “No Parking 6am-10am Mon Only” and “2P 10am-6pm Mon, 8am-6pm
Tue-Fri, Permit Holders Excepted Area 41”; and (B) Between
the points 53 metres and 60.8 metres (one car space), 72.5 metres and 81.3
metres (one car space), and 93.8 metres and 105.8 metres (two car spaces)
north of Zamia Street, as “No Parking 6am-10am Mon Only”. This was to enable the City’s
cleansing vehicles to safely access the laneway for waste collection. To ensure a more
efficient service for residents, the City will be changing the waste
collection period from every Monday, from 6am to 10am, to every Wednesday,
from 6am to 6pm. This change will come into effect as of Monday 1 July 2019. To allow cleansing
vehicles to continue to safely operate in the laneway, it is proposed to
update the “No Parking” restriction to match the new waste collection period. |
The kerb space on the western side of Kepos Lane,
Redfern, between Phillip and Telopea Streets, where the changes are proposed,
is currently signposted as “No Parking 6am-10am Mon Only” and “2P 10am-6pm Mon,
8am-6pm Tue-Fri, Permit Holders Excepted Area 41” and “No Parking 6am-10am Mon
Only”.
On-site inspection shows there is a need to
provide “No Parking” restrictions during waste collections periods to ensure
that cleansing vehicles can operate in a safe and efficient manner. To
allow cleansing vehicles to continue to safely operate in the laneway, it is
proposed to update the “No Parking” restriction to match the new waste
collection period.
The City notified local residents and businesses in the
area of the changes to waste collection. There has been one response requesting
that the parking restrictions will be updated to match the new collection time.
Funds are available in the current budget.
