It is resolved that:
(A) Council note:
(i) the passing of former cricketer and long term South Sydney resident Alan Davidson on 30 October 2021 at the age of 92;
(ii) Alan Davidson was born at Lisarow in 1929, moving to Sydney at the age of 19;
(iii) Alan Davidson played 44 Tests for Australia between 1953 and 1963;
(iv) Alan Davidson was a left-arm paceman taking 186 Test wickets with an average of 20.53 during his career;
(v) Alan Davidson was also an accomplished batsman, hitting five centuries during his Test career;
(vi) Alan Davidson was the first male cricketer to score 100 runs and take 10 wickets during a single test;
(vii) Alan Davidson went on to be an Australian Test selector between 1979 and 1984;
(viii) Alan Davidson spent 33 years as President of Cricket NSW and 20 years as a Trustee of the Sydney Cricket Ground;
(ix) Alan Davidson was inducted into both the Sport Australia and ICC Hall of Fames;
(x) Alan Davidson was made a member of the Order of the British Empire in 1964 and awarded the Order of Australia in 1987; and
(xi) Alan Davidson Oval in Sydney Park was named for the cricketing legend;
(B) all persons attending this meeting of Council observe one minute’s silence to commemorate the life of Alan Davidson and his significant contribution to Australian sport;
(C) Council expresses its condolences to Alan Davidson's family; and
(D) the Lord Mayor be requested to convey Council’s condolences to Alan’s family. Vale Alan Davidson AM MBE.
