It is resolved that:
(A)
Council adopt the Oxford Street LGBTIQA+ Social
and Cultural Place Strategy as shown at Attachment A to the subject report;
(B)
Council note the
feedback received on the draft Oxford Street LGBTIQA+ Social and Cultural Place
Strategy as shown at Attachment B to the subject report, with the following
additions or amendments at Priority 5:
(i)
noting that the City of Sydney has been a leader
in harm minimisation, include a commitment to promote harm minimisation and
work with NSW Health and continue to work with NSW Police particularly Surry
Hills Area Command, in relation to addressing safety issues in the precinct;
(ii)
include at Action 9.1 a commitment to work with
NSW Health or other relevant stakeholders to support harm minimisation;
(iii) include
a new Action 9.4 to advocate for the increased presence of health services and
the adoption of harm minimisation strategies to address real and perceived
substance use and safety concerns, or equivalent; and
(iv) otherwise
amend relevant actions to acknowledge that strategies are needed to address and
prevent heavy handed policing in the precinct, as this is a key
issues that makes many LGBTQIA+ people feel unsafe; and
(C)
authority be delegated to the Chief Executive
Officer to make amendments to the Oxford Street LGBTIQA+ Social and Cultural
Place Strategy in order to correct any minor drafting
errors and finalise design, artwork and accessible formats for publication.
