It is resolved that Council submit the following
motion for consideration at the next Local Government NSW Annual Conference:
LGNSW note:
There is a crisis of
housing affordability in NSW, creating unique challenges for both regional and
urban areas; and
Local government has a key
role to play in the easing of this crisis, and in supporting the creation of
affordable housing.
LGNSW resolves:
To support the development
of affordable housing targets of 25% on government owned land, and the
establishment within 12 months of an effective mechanism of inclusionary zoning
for privately developed land that responds to local need and context.
To lobby the NSW
Government on the issue of affordable housing, expressing the above view; and
To develop strategies to
support local councils in NSW in increasing affordable housing in their local
government areas.
